Two frightfully fun projects featuring the Hero Arts HEROween Box — Halloween shaker treat bag and “It’s Boo Time” card inspiration!
Continuing the HEROween Fun
We’re nearing the end of our Hero Arts HEROween box adventure — just one more day to go! Days 11 and 12 brought more Halloween staples that are perfect for spooky crafting sessions.
Day 11 featured a Treat Bag die set with candy and a Halloween sentiment stamp with matching dies. I kept the traditional Halloween vibe, but this die has me dreaming of gift bags for every occasion — birthdays, Christmas, Easter, you name it!
Day 11: Spooky Sweet Shaker Treat Bag
For this project, I used the die set as intended to create a Halloween shaker treat bag.
Color Palette (Spellbinders Colorwheel Cardstocks):
- Violet – Treat Bag
- Raven – Spiders
- Carrot – Candy
- Saffron – Candy
- Treasured Onyx – Sentiment
- Patterned Orange Ombre – Background (From my stash, not Spellbinders)
To build the treat bag itself, I cut only the top and bottom layers from my Violet cardstock. Then I cut one frame layer from acetate and four additional frame layers from white cardstock. I adhered those four white frame layers together and colored the outer edges with an Ohuhu Purple Marker in shade V214. This little trick does double duty, it helps stretch your colored cardstock further and it is a great way to use up white scraps you already have on hand.
Tip: I used stacked paper instead of foam tape because the treat bag sides are thin — paper layers make assembly easier and cleaner.
Once my white frame stack was colored, I adhered the solid Violet layer to the bottom of that stack and set aside. Next, I glued the acetate layer to the back of the purple frame using liquid glue and set it aside to dry completely.
Meanwhile, using black acrylic paint, I splattered my orange ombre background panel and let that dry too.
Next, I cut out my sentiment, spiders, and candy pieces. Two candies were adhered to the back of the treat bag, while three more candies and shaker bits went inside the shaker well. I sealed the treat bag shaker well with the acetate layer and placed a small weight on top while drying to ensure a tight seal.
To finish, I trimmed ¼ inch off each long side of the orange panel (final size: 5.5″ x 4″) and adhered it to a black panel (5.5″ x 4.25″). Then, I added my shaker treat bag, sentiment, and spiders.
This little treat bag turned out so cute — perfect for Halloween favors or even adaptable for other holidays. Imagine a Christmas treat bag filled with crackers or an Easter bag with mini eggs and bunnies!
Day 12: It’s Boo Time!
Can you believe we’re already on Day 12? This day’s set included sentiment stamps and matching dies — with “BOO” and “SPOOKY” as the stars.
I decided to make a clean and simple card with a fun shadow effect.
Steps:
- Cut a black base (5.5″ x 4.25″).
- Use the Spellbinders Playful Stitched Panel Die Set to cut panels from lavender and coral cardstock.
- Center the “BOO” die on the coral panel and cut the outline.
- Stamp “IT’S” and “TIME” on the coral panel so the sentiment reads “IT’S BOO TIME.”
- Tape the coral panel to the lavender panel and align the “BOO” stamp inside the outline using your stamp positioning tool.
- Remove the coral panel and stamp “BOO” directly onto the lavender panel.
- Add foam tape behind the coral panel to create a shadow box effect and adhere it over the stamped “BOO.”
- Mount both panels at an angle on the black base.
Variation Tip: You could easily turn this into a shaker card by adding acetate behind the “BOO” outline before assembling!
