Celebrate Graduation Season with a Fun Classic Mouse Card Design
It is hard to believe graduation season is already here. As a mom, this season feels especially emotional because it marks the end of my daughter’s junior year of high school. Somehow, in the blink of an eye, she is about to become a senior. It is such a bittersweet season of wanting to hold on tight while also getting excited to watch them spread their wings. I know she has an amazing year ahead, but for now I am slowing things down and focusing on celebrating some of her friends with today’s graduation card design.

For today’s project I created a fun graduation card featuring the Spellbinders Classic Mouse Graduation set. This collection is packed with personality and charm, and the graduation mouse is absolutely perfect for creating memorable cards for graduates of all ages.
Creating the Classic Graduation Mouse
One of my favorite things about the Classic Mouse Graduation set is that it is a complete standalone set. Unlike some of the other Classic Mouse releases, this is not an add-on set. Everything needed to create the adorable Graduation Mouse is included right in the package.
For my card I focused on creating the Mr. Mouse, but the Miss Mouse elements are included as well, making this set incredibly versatile for graduation crafting.
I die cut all of the mouse pieces, the graduation hat, and diploma using the following cardstock colors:
- Spellbinders Raven
- Spellbinders Alabaster
- Spellbinders Poppy
- Spellbinders Beeswax
- Spellbinders Indigo
- Spellbinders Gold Mirror Metallic
- Gina K Blue Denim
Once all the pieces were cut, I assembled the mouse using the assembly guide and set everything aside while I worked on the rest of the card.
Adding the Graduation Details
To create the graduation year embellishment, I used the Classic Mouse Graduation Sentiments BetterPress and Foil set. I die-cut the “2026” from Gina K Blue Denim cardstock and paired it with gold shadow layers cut from Treasured Gold cardstock.
For the decorative background strips, I used the Stripe Right set and cut coordinating blue, gold, and white strips to tie the design together.
Building the Background Layout
For the card background, I started with a piece of white cardstock measuring 4.25” x 5.5”. To add a little extra interest and texture, I splattered the panel with Orion Aqua Pigment from Brutus Monroe. This subtle splatter effect gives the background movement without overpowering the focal design.
Next, I arranged the blue, gold, and white strips diagonally across the lower third of the card panel. I was not concerned about the strips extending beyond the edges because I planned to trim the panel afterward for a clean finished look.
After all the strips were adhered, I trimmed the panel down to 3.5” x 5.5”.
Tips for Perfectly Lining Up Die Cut Numbers
To add the “2026” sentiment, I centered the numbers across the widest strip.
PRO TIP: One of my favorite tricks for lining up die cut sentiments is to place them on a low tack mat and use the grid lines for alignment. Once everything is lined up properly, I pick the pieces up with Mint Tape, add glue to the back, and place the entire sentiment onto the card at once. I allow the glue to set for a minute or two before carefully removing the tape. This makes it much easier to keep everything straight and evenly spaced.
Once the numbers were attached, I added the prepared Classic Graduation Mouse and graduation hat to complete the focal area.
Final Card Assembly
For the final assembly, I created a white A2 card base and layered the panels for added dimension and color contrast.
The layering measurements are:
- Blue Denim panel: 4” x 5.5”
- Gold panel: 3.75” x 5.5”
- Main focal panel: 3.5” x 5.5”
Each layer was centered onto the previous layer to create a clean, polished finish that really helps the graduation mouse stand out.
I absolutely love how this graduation card turned out. The bright colors, fun diagonal strips, and adorable mouse make this such a cheerful way to celebrate a huge milestone.
