Creative Halloween Tags: Fun and Spooky Ideas

October is here, and that means it’s time for one of my favorite themes of the year — Halloween!

For me, Halloween crafting leans more toward fun, playful, and slightly spooky, rather than horror or gore. I love that sweet spot where the projects feel festive and mischievous without being scary. This month, I created two Halloween tags that capture exactly that spirit.

Tag One – You’ve Been Ghosted!

My first tag features a cheerful ghost popping out of a frame. Using three sizes of the Stitched Rounded Rectangle Dies, I created two layered frame sizes.

To give the frame extra dimension, I doubled up the thinner frame and adhered it with liquid glue to the wider frame. Then came the ghost — I secured him between the two layers so he looks like he’s floating right out of the frame! A bit of thin foam tape behind him added stability and lift. I then added a third thin frame that was popped up with foam tope for extra dimension.

To complete the framed scene, I cut a simple background piece and attached it behind all the layers. The final touch? A black ribbon and the cheeky sentiment “You’ve Been Ghosted” — a fun nod to Halloween “Boo Bags”!

Tag Two – I’m Dying to See You!

For my second tag, I went for something just a bit spookier. I began by cutting several sets of scary eyeballs from cardstock scraps using the Mummy Wrappings Background Die.

Next, I looked for a fun tag base and found the perfect shape with the Zig Zag Rectangle Dies. I die-cut it from cardstock that I had ink-blended with Hickory Smoke Distress Oxide for a moody gray tone.

Once my tag base was ready, I arranged all the eyeballs in a fun pattern and adhered them using liquid adhesive. To finish it off, I added the sentiment “I’m Dying To See You” at a slight angle and tied on a piece of orange and white string for that classic Halloween pop of color.
