Two Handmade Cards Using the Create Your Way Everyday Collection
Good morning, crafty friends! It has been a while since I had a moment to post, and I have missed it so much. Sometimes life just puts a bit too much on our plates. Then, as if I was not busy enough, the shelving in my craft room all came crashing down! With new shelving almost here and a day off from my regular job to reorganize, I will be back up and running in a couple of weeks. But that is not why you stopped by my little corner of the world today, so let’s get to the projects!
Meet the Create Your Way Everyday Collection from Spellbinders
Today I am working with the Create Your Way Everyday Collection from Spellbinders. This collection is jam packed with items for all your everyday occasions. I made two hot foil butterfly cards for you using the same colors and supplies on both. The first is a simple yet elegant “just because” card, and the second is a Thank You card with a fun diagonal design. Both are easy to make, and both would work for many different occasions.
Card One: The Just Because Card
Let’s start with the first card, which I call my “just because” card. I love making these and mailing them to people just to let them know I am thinking of them. Life is so fast paced, and it is nice to send a card for no other reason than to say hello and, hopefully, put a smile on someone’s face.

Hot Foiling the Butterflies and Sentiment
For both cards I started with a little glimmering! Using the Glimmer Machine and Teal Glimmer Foil, I hot foiled all three butterflies and the sentiment from the Bright Butterflies Press Plate, Foil Plate and Die set onto Oceanside cardstock. These two colors coordinate beautifully together. Once everything was foiled, I cut the pieces out using the coordinating dies.
For this first card I used the sentiment and two butterflies. I set the third butterfly aside for my second card.
Embossing and Assembling the Just Because Card
To keep this card simple and elegant, I embossed a panel of white cardstock with the Shady Leaves Embossing Folder. I trimmed the embossed panel to 3 3/4″ x 5″ and added it to a panel of Oceanside cardstock that measured 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. Before centering and adhering the embossed panel, I added foam tape to the back of it to give the card some extra dimension.
Next, I adhered the butterflies and sentiment directly to the embossed panel. To finish, I added a little coordinating bling from my stash and adhered the completed panel to a card base.
Card Two: The Diagonal Thank You Card
For card two, I made a Thank You card using most of the same supplies and the same color theme. My butterfly was already ready from card one, so all I needed to foil was my sentiment. I chose Black Glimmer Foil for the Thank You sentiment from the Timeless Greeting Press and Foil sentiment set because I wanted the words to stretch diagonally across the card.

Using the Hinge Method for Foiling
To get that diagonal look, I trimmed a 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ panel and cut it on a diagonal. After centering the sentiment on the diagonal, I used the hinge method to hold it in place. For the hinge method, I use Best Ever Craft Tape on one side of the sentiment to hold it in place, then slide your foil under the hinged sentiment and foil as usual.
Tip: I always trim my foil as close to the size of the sentiment as I can to help prevent over foiling. This is especially helpful when you are foiling directly onto the card rather than cutting the pieces out. If you do end up with a small amount of over foiling, I used a sand eraser to remove the excess foil.
Creating the Diagonal Panels
With the foiling done, I embossed another 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ panel with the same Shady Leaves Embossing Folder and cut it on a diagonal to match the panel I foiled the Thank You onto. Before putting the two panels together, I wanted a small strip of paper down the center to help cover the seam, so I cut a 1/8″ strip from Oceanside cardstock.
To assemble, I adhered both diagonal panels to a piece of white cardstock measuring 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″, then adhered the strip of Oceanside cardstock over the seam. To clean up the edges, I trimmed the entire panel by about 1/8″ on all sides.
Tip: Trimming a little off each side helps keep your Thank You sentiment centered. If yours ended up off center, you may want to trim more from one side than the other to help balance it.
Finishing the Thank You Card
I adhered the completed panel to a white card base using a little foam tape for dimension. To finish the card, I added thin foam tape to the butterfly, adhered it to the panel under the Thank You sentiment, and added some black enamel dots.
