House-Mouse Dandelion Dreams Card – Creative Coloring with the Spellbinders House-Mouse Party Parade Collection
A sweet and versatile handmade card featuring the Dandelion Dreams set from the Spellbinders House-Mouse Party Parade Collection

House-Mouse Dandelion Dreams

Today is day three of four featuring the new Spellbinders House-Mouse Party Parade Collection. For today’s project I am sharing a card created with the Dandelion Dreams set. This is such a sweet set and also incredibly versatile, making it perfect for many occasions.

The Dandelion Dreams set includes a main image, a smaller stamp for the floating dandelion seeds, and three sentiments. I chose to use the sentiment May Your Wishes Take Flight. I love how this sentiment works for so many different occasions including birthdays, graduations, encouragement cards, or simply letting someone know you are thinking of them.

Stamping the Image

The main image was stamped on light yellow cardstock using Memento Black Ink, which is my alcohol-marker-friendly ink of choice. One important tip for this technique is to leave the stamp in place in your stamping platform so you can easily stamp again later in the process.

Coloring with Olo Markers

Once the image was stamped, I colored it using the following Olo Marker colors:

  • G5.1 – Stem
  • O4.0 and O7.3 – Mouse
  • RV.01 – Face

These soft tones worked beautifully with the light yellow cardstock and helped create a warm, cheerful look for the design.

Creating the Dandelion Seed Effect

After the coloring was complete, I used small pieces of removable craft tape such as Best Ever Craft Tape to carefully block off the mouse’s face, tail, feet, and the flower stem.

With those areas masked, I placed the panel back into my stamping platform and stamped over the exposed dandelion portion using Hero Arts Unicorn white pigment ink. I also hand stamped the floating dandelion seeds using a stamping block and the same white pigment ink.

This technique creates the soft white look of a dandelion that has gone to seed and is ready to float away in the breeze.

Creating the Background Window

Next, I worked on the background panel. Using Windy Cardstock, I cut a circle large enough to showcase the stamped image using the Everlasting Circles dies.

To create a frame around the opening, I used the same circle die along with the next size up to cut a white circular frame. This frame helps draw attention to the focal image and adds dimension to the card.

Curving the Sentiment

For the sentiment, I wanted it to follow the curve of the circle opening. I gently manipulated the stamp so it would curve slightly.

To ensure perfect placement, I placed a piece of acetate over the Windy cardstock inside my stamping platform. I positioned and curved the sentiment stamp where I wanted it and then picked it up with the lid of the platform.

Before removing the acetate, I did a test stamp to confirm the alignment was correct. Once I was happy with the placement, I removed the acetate and stamped the sentiment directly onto the Windy cardstock using black ink.

Assembling the Card

To assemble the card, I adhered the white circle frame to the Windy cardstock panel using liquid adhesive.

The stamped image panel was trimmed slightly so it would fit behind the circular window. Once centered, it was also adhered with liquid adhesive. Finally, the completed panel was attached to an A2 card base.

With that, the project was complete.

I hope you are enjoying this mini-series featuring the House-Mouse Party Parade Collection.
