Create Stunning Foiled Tags with Pink and Main

Pink and Main Advent Calendar 2025 – Day 9 Surprise

Today’s surprise in the Pink and Main Advent Calendar 2025 was Foilables, and I could not be happier. Foilables are one of my favorite products because they are incredibly easy to use and always give stunning results. If you’ve never tried foiling before, this is a great place to start.

Foilables do require a Minc machine or another laminator-style foiling machine, along with transfer foil. Pink and Main offers a wide range of foil colors, making it easy to find the perfect match for any project.

Creating a Foiled Tag with Pink and Main Foilables

One of the foilables in today’s pack featured a fun scribble design, and I immediately knew I wanted to turn it into a tag. Tags are quick to make, easy to customize, and perfect for using up specialty products like foilables.

While my Minc machine was heating up, I trimmed the foilable panel using the Stitched Pointed Banner Dies. I cut:

  • One panel from the foilable sheet
  • One panel from plain white cardstock for the back
  • One smaller banner for a mini tag

I love adding a smaller tag to the main tag. The mini tag can be used directly on the gift, while the larger tag can be saved and reused later. It’s like getting two gifts in one.

Foiling Tips for Clean, Beautiful Results

Once my panels were die cut, it was time to choose a foil color. I selected Sky Blue Cheer foil from a recent Foil of the Month kit. I trimmed the foil slightly larger than the foilable panel, making sure all the toner areas would be fully covered.

For trimming foil, I prefer using a handheld rotary trimmer. I find it easier and more precise than scissors.

Before foiling, I wiped down both the foil and the foilable panel to remove any dust or lint. This step helps prevent imperfections in the foil transfer. I personally like using a Swiffer wipe, but a dedicated foil dusting brush works well too.

To foil:

  1. Place the foil pretty side up on the toner side of the foilable.
  2. Insert everything into a carrier sheet.
  3. Run it through your Minc or similar machine.

Once the panel comes out, allow it to cool completely. Then pull the foil off in one quick motion to reveal the finished design. Be sure to save the negative foil piece—it can be used again on a toner panel for another project.

To finish the base of the tag, I adhered the large plain white banner to the back of the foiled panel.

Stamping and Coloring the Image

With the foiled tag complete, I moved on to the focal image. I chose the September Mouse stamp set with its coordinating die.

I stamped the image twice:

  • First with black ink
  • Then with embossing ink and heat embossed using clear embossing powder

This is my go-to technique when coloring with alcohol markers. Even when using alcohol-marker-friendly ink, the clear embossing adds an extra layer of protection against smearing. Another bonus is avoiding stray black embossing powder specks that always seem to show up at the worst time.

Alcohol Marker Coloring and Die Cutting

For coloring, I used a mix of Olo and Altenew alcohol markers. Don’t be afraid to mix marker brands—using different brands makes it easier to get the exact color combinations you want.

Markers used:

  • Altenew: R926, B016, B002
  • Olo: WG1, WG3, O 7.1, R 0.2, C-G1, R 0.6, R 1.5, R 0.5

After coloring, I cut the image with the coordinating die, added foam tape to the back, and adhered it to the foiled tag.

Assembling the Two-in-One Tag

To finish the project, I lined up the mini tag behind the larger tag so it was completely hidden. I punched a hole through both tags at the same time, then added a tag string to secure them together.

This creates a reusable tag set that’s both fun and functional—perfect for holiday gifting or any special occasion.

Final Thoughts

Foilables are a fantastic way to add shine and interest to your projects with very little effort. This tag came together quickly, but it feels special thanks to the foiling and layered details. If you’ve been curious about foiling, I highly encourage you to give it a try.
