A Floral Advent Surprise from Pink and Main
Today’s surprise from Pink and Main Advent Day 6 was a beautiful poppy stamp paired with a coordinating sentiment. If you haven’t guessed by now, Pink and Main always chooses a theme for their Advent boxes, and this year’s theme is Florals. Florals are timeless and incredibly versatile, making them perfect for cards for almost any occasion.
This project came together quickly, yet the finished card has a clean, elegant look that really lets the stamped image shine.

Stamping and Embossing the Poppy Image
I started by stamping both the poppy image and sentiment onto white cardstock. First, I stamped them in black ink, then stamped again using clear embossing ink. I finished by heat embossing with clear embossing powder.
This is one of my favorite techniques. Using clear embossing powder helps seal in the stamped lines while avoiding those stray embossing powder dots that I always seem to get when using black embossing powder. It also protects the image during coloring. Even when I use alcohol ink–friendly ink, I still sometimes experience a little smearing, and clear embossing really helps prevent that.
Coloring the Classic Red Poppy
Once the image was stamped and embossed, it was time to color. I chose a classic red poppy, which never goes out of style.
For the petals, I used:
For the stems and leaves, I used:
Keeping the coloring simple really allows the bold red petals to stand out against the white background.
Die Cutting and Layering the Card Elements
To keep with the clean and simple feel of today’s project, I used Layered Oval dies to cut out the image. I chose two sizes: one for the poppy image and a slightly larger one for the shadow layer.
For the sentiment, I used my paper trimmer to cut a clean strip and then created the same layered look by adding a slightly larger mat behind it. Both pieces were assembled and set aside for the final card design.
Choosing Patterned Paper for the Background
For the card background, I decided to use patterned paper from my stash. To choose the best option, I simply placed the colored image on top of several patterned papers until one felt just right.
This is a great way to “try out” different looks before committing. Using patterned paper behind a simple image is an easy way to add interest to a card while also using up your paper stash. It gives the image that extra something that helps it stand out even more.
Final Thoughts
I hope you enjoyed today’s Pink and Main Advent project. The classic red poppy is one of my favorite poppy colors, though the bright orange varieties are a close second.
I’d love to know—what is your favorite poppy color?
