As the holidays get closer, I always find myself needing not only Christmas cards but also festive gift tags for wrapping. This month’s challenge from Gina K Designs could not have come at a better time. The challenge: create a coordinating card and tag using the same supplies. What a great way to have a perfectly matching set for gifting.

Creating the Matching Card
Using the Inlay Die Cut Technique
I began with the Elegant Tree Die, cutting one tree from the center of a white 4.25 x 5.5 inch panel and one from silver foil cardstock. I set both trees aside to use on each project.
Next, I used Master Layouts 2 to cut the negative white tree panel using the larger stitched die. I also cut a black layering panel using the coordinating die for contrast.
Before assembling, I tested a few background options for the inlaid tree. I tried black cardstock, then solid green, but neither gave the look I envisioned. Instead, I chose a green background using premade alcohol ink paper cut just slightly larger than the tree opening. That went behind the white panel and added the perfect holiday glow.
Once layered, I inlaid the silver tree. To keep adhesive from oozing out, I brushed liquid glue onto my glass mat and tapped the tree gently into it—just enough to secure the delicate die cut in place.
Adding the Sentiment and Assembly
I stamped a sentiment from the O Christmas Tree set in black ink and cut it using the coordinating die. With a strip of thin foam tape behind it, I added dimension by centering it on the panel.
To finish, I adhered everything to a white A2 card base—clean and classic.

Creating the Matching Gift Tag
With the challenge requiring the same supplies for both projects, I looked again at Master Layouts 2 and noticed the smaller set of dies would be perfect for a gift tag.
I used the white die-cut tree from the card panel and adhered it to alcohol ink paper just as before. While that dried, I cut a black tag backer using the smaller layering die.
Once dry, I aligned the tree slightly off-center and used the smaller stitched die to trim it. I loved how it allowed part of the tree to be cut off—giving the design a modern twist. I adhered this piece to the black tag layer.
Since the tag back was black and hard to write on, I added a white stitched panel to the back for writing “To/From.”
To balance the design on the front, I added the same sentiment—cut with the coordinating die—along the long side of the tag. A quick hole punch and a bit of string completed the look.

The Finished Holiday Duo
I love that this set looks like it belongs together—purposeful and festive! Creating a matching card-and-tag set is a great way to elevate gift giving during the holiday season.
