Whimsical Autumn Gift Tags: Celebrate Fall Creativity

Theme: Autumn

I love autumn!  The air gets that slight crisp chill, the light shifts, and nature starts preparing for winter. Growing up near the mountains, fall was breathtaking—vibrant trees, cool nights, and golden leaves crunching underfoot. Living in the south now, it’s a bit more subtle, but I still adore every moment of it.

This month, I had so many ideas that I couldn’t stop at just one project—I made three different gift tags, each with its own mood and style.

Tag 1 – Traditional Autumn Leaves

For this first tag, I wanted a classic fall look with warm, earthy tones. My original thought was to use gold embossing powder for the leaves, but it felt too bold. Instead, I dug into my swatches and rediscovered Penny Embossing Powder by Brutus Monroe—it has the perfect coppery shimmer without overpowering the design.

Using the Look for Them in the Leaves stamp set, I stamped out several leaves with embossing ink. (Tip: Always use an anti-static powder tool first—ask me how I know this is important… yes, I forgot, and it was a powdery mess!) After embossing, I pulled out the ROY Simple Blends Ink Pad from Brutus Monroe, which has three blended fall shades in one. I ink-blended softly over the embossed leaves so the copper outlines really popped against the blended leaves.

To finish, I stamped and heat-embossed the sentiment Thankful FOR YOU from the LDRS Sending My Love Stamp and Die set. After die-cutting the sentiment, I punched a hole in the top with my Crop-A-Dile and tied it off with a piece of ribbon from my stash. (Hint: I save little ribbon scraps from packaging, gifts, or craft leftovers—they’re usually just the right length for gift tags!)

This one feels like fall in its most traditional form—warm, cozy, and thankful.

**After making this tag I realized the Look for them in the Leaves stamps are no longer available.  I would suggest Gina K Designs Skeleton Leaves stamp set as a great alternative. This set has matching dies and poly-glaze if you prefer foiling to heat embossing.

Tag 2 – A Cozy Coffee Theme

My second tag was inspired by my love of cozy fall drinks. I thought it would be the perfect pairing for a coffee gift card—a thoughtful “just because” or a small teacher pick-me-up gift. (Sometimes a surprise coffee mid-semester means more than a big end-of-year gesture!)

I cut the tag base with an oval die and punched the hole with my Crop-A-Dile. For the background, I used the Warm and Cozy stamp set by Stamps of Life. I chose the medium leaf stamp and stamped it repeatedly using three metallic Tsukineko Brilliance pigment inks: Coffee Bean, Pearlescent Olive, and Cosmic Copper. The metallic finish really gave the background a subtle shimmer that feels perfect for fall.

Next came the coffee cup! I die-cut the pumpkin coffee cup image, from the Warm and Cozy Dies set four times in different colors—one to keep whole as the base, and three others that I cut apart and layered. This way, I built a maroon cup with a gold band and an off-white lid, giving the cup realistic depth and fun detail.

To finish, I added a sentiment from the Honey Bee Inside Thankful Sentiments set. I stamped and die-cut “Thank You” in the same Cosmic Copper pigment ink so it tied the whole tag together.

This tag feels cozy, caffeinated, and heartfelt—just like a warm autumn coffee.

Tag 3 – Whimsical Crow Girl

For my third tag, I leaned into a more playful style! While digging through my supplies, I found some blue tag bases from long ago and decided to build from there.

I wanted to stencil leaves blowing across the background, but my dye inks blended too much with the blue base and lost their vibrancy. Distress Oxides were too chalky for what I wanted, so I switched to Tsukineko Brilliance Pigment Inks—their opaque, metallic finish was just right. Using the Lawn Fawn Autumn Breeze Stencil and mini pouncers, I carefully “pounced” the colors Cosmic Copper and Galaxy Gold through the stencil. (Tip: Pouncing instead of blending helps pack more color into small stencil spaces for bold coverage!)

For the focal point, I used the adorable Crow Girl from the Lawn Fawn You Crow Girl Stamp and Die Set. I stamped her with an alcohol-marker-safe ink, then colored her with a mix of markers from Altenew, Olo, and Ohuhu. (Hint: Don’t be afraid to mix marker brands! Each has its strengths, and together they can give you exactly the look you’re after.)

To finish the scene, I layered some scraps of green and yellow paper for the ground and die-cut a little white fence using the Lawn Fawn Little Farm Fence Border Die. I left this tag sentiment-free so I can add a personal note on the back when I use it on a gift.

This one turned out fun, whimsical, and a little unexpected—the perfect reminder that not all autumn projects have to be in traditional colors.
