A fun handmade baseball themed card featuring the Spellbinders Stitching Die Club “Everyday MVP” design

It is the 6th of the month and that means the Spellbinders Clubs are officially open to everyone. This month’s club offerings are absolutely packed with creative possibilities and are truly a must-have for your crafting stash. There is so much goodness in this release and I had such a great time creating with it.
For today’s project I am featuring the Stitching Die of the Month for March 2026 called Everyday MVP. This die set creates a baseball cap design and it is perfect for sports themed cards. I immediately fell in love with this design. The color combinations are completely customizable so you can tailor it to match a favorite team or simply use colors you love. While the die is designed for stitching, it also looks fantastic even if you choose to skip the stitching step.
Creating the Baseball Cap
I started by cutting the baseball cap pieces from Cosmic Sky and Poppy cardstock. To add contrast and a bit of dimension, I lightly ink blended areas of the hat where shadows would naturally fall using Blueberry Ink from Concord and 9th.
Once the ink blending was completely dry, I stitched the hat using DMC floss #824. The stitching detail really brings the design to life and adds that handmade texture that I love in stitched projects. After completing the stitching, I secured the backer pieces to hold the threads in place and then assembled the hat.
Designing the Baseball Field
For the baseball field, I used Fern and Kraft cardstock. I cut circles from both colors using the Everlasting Circle dies and then trimmed them to create the look of a baseball field. The scraps from those cuts were perfect for creating the additional field details.
I cut a small brown circle with the Everlasting Circle dies for the infield area, used a hole punch to create the mound, and hand cut a small green square for another field detail.
To give the grass the look of freshly mowed lines, I embossed the “outfield” Fern cardstock with the Corrugated 3D embossing folder. This subtle texture really enhances the field and adds interest without overpowering the design.
Adding Ink Blending for Dimension
To create depth and a more realistic look, I added ink blending to the field pieces. I used Distress Oxide Walnut Stain on the brown cardstock and Concord and 9th Evergreen ink on the Fern field pieces.
Once everything was ink blended and assembled, I set the field aside while I worked on the rest of the card.
Creating the Background
For the background of the card, I embossed Fog cardstock with the Dimpled 3D embossing folder. The texture adds a subtle detail that complements the rest of the design.
I trimmed the embossed panel to 4 by 5.25 inches and cut a piece of Raven cardstock slightly larger to create a thin frame around the background.
After that, I adhered the baseball field to the Fog panel and trimmed any overhang, so it lined up perfectly with the edges. The Raven layer was secured to the back of the panel, and the entire piece was attached to an A2 card base.
Finishing the Card
To finish the card, I added foam tape to the back of the baseball cap and positioned it slightly overlapping the baseball field for added dimension.
The sentiment was cut from Poppy cardstock and added to the top left corner of the card using foam tape so it would stand out from the background.
This was such a fun card to create and it will be perfect for my nephew who loves baseball. I already have ideas for making this design again in different color combinations and for other sports fans in my life.
What colors would you use for your baseball cap? Would you match a favorite team or create your own custom look?
