A Fresh and Fun Card Idea Featuring the Spellbinders Stitching Die Club – Spring Stitched Tree
There is just something about stitching on a card that makes it extra special. This month’s “Spring Stitched Tree” from the Spellbinders Stitching Die Club completely stole my heart. With spring right around the corner, it felt like the perfect time to lean into soft florals, fresh greenery, and all things cheerful.
I am so in love with this month’s stitching die of the month. Since we are entering the spring season and all things spring seem to be top of mind, I kept with that theme for my card design. However, this die is incredibly versatile — and I have even more ideas for other seasons below.

Choosing the Perfect Spring Color Palette
To start my project, I began by selecting spring-inspired colors from the Spellbinders Colorwheel Cardstock Collection for the flowers on the tree. I chose:
- Lavender
- Orchid
- Lilac
For the rest of the tree elements, I used:
- Peridot and Rainforest for the leaves
- Fern for the grassy hill
- Truffle for the tree trunk
These tones work beautifully together and really bring the “spring bloom” feel to life.
Die Cutting & Organizing for Easy Assembly
After selecting my cardstock, I die-cut all of the pieces and separated each component into individual piles for easier assembly later. This small step makes the building process so much smoother.
Important Stitching Tip
If you are planning on stitching your flowers:
- Cut one stitching flower layer
- Cut one backer flower layer for each flower
If you decide not to stitch:
- You will need backer layers
- Plus flower centers (or gems for the centers)
Planning ahead here will save you from having to re-cut pieces later.
Stitching the Flowers
For the stitching, I chose DMC floss colors:
- DMC 211
- DMC 3609
- DMC 208

Once the stitching was complete, I secured the backing flower piece with liquid adhesive to keep everything in place and neat.
The stitching adds such beautiful texture and dimension — it truly elevates the design.
Adding Dimension to the Leaves
To give the leaves more depth, I lightly ink blended the bases using a slightly dirty green ink blending tool. This subtle shading adds just enough contrast to make the tree feel more dimensional without overpowering the soft florals.
Creating a Soft Sunrise Background
With all my tree elements ready, I moved on to the background. I wanted the look of a summer sunrise at the beach, so I blended the following Distress Oxide Colors:
- Picked Raspberry
- Tattered Rose
- Tumbled Glass
The soft gradient creates a peaceful, glowing backdrop for the tree.
I trimmed the panel to 4 x 5.25” and built my tree directly on top, allowing the grassy hill to slightly overhang the bottom of the panel for added interest. Once everything was secured, I adhered the panel to a white A2 card base and added the sentiment “Spring Wishes” to finish the card.
Thinking Beyond Spring
While I absolutely love this spring-inspired version, this die set is incredibly versatile.
Just imagine:
- A fall tree with rich golds and deep reds
- A winter tree in icy blues and silvers
- A Halloween tree with a dark trunk and tiny pumpkins hanging from the branches
The possibilities truly are endless, and that is what makes this die so exciting.
