Two Quick & Creative Heart-Themed Tags for the Gorgeous Gift Tags Instagram Hop
Today I am sharing two quick but fun tags I made for the Gorgeous Gift Tags Instagram Hop. This hop has an optional theme each month, and this month’s theme was Hearts. This is a hop created just for fun and inspiration, so be sure to follow along and support the artists whose work you enjoy.
Both of today’s projects are easy to customize and work beautifully for gift giving, whether you are adding a note, a gift card, or simply a handmade touch.

Tag One: Heart Envelope with a Removable Insert

For my first tag, I created a small envelope with a removable heart insert card. This design is perfect for a handwritten note, but it also works great for holding a gift card.
To start, I used a heart strip stencil from Crafter’s Companion to ink blend hearts onto a piece of light pink cardstock. I used a darker pink ink to create a soft tone-on-tone effect. Once the ink blending was complete, I die-cut the panel using an envelope die.
I also die-cut a second envelope from white cardstock to create the back of the tag. The envelope die I used was from a Scrapbook & Cards Today event called With Love. The two envelope die cuts were secured back to back, making sure the stitching faced outward on both sides.
Since the die creates a small opening in the envelope for inserting items, I added a white cardstock panel across the bottom portion of the back of the envelope. This provides a solid surface for writing. To secure this panel, adhesive was applied to the two sides, the bottom, and the top triangle of the envelope. It is important not to add adhesive to the bottom center, as that would seal the envelope shut.
Creating the Foldable Heart Insert

While the envelope was drying, I worked on the heart insert. I decided to make a mini foldable card.
Using the Kat Scrappiness Fancy Scalloped Heart die, I cut a full heart from pink cardstock for the top layer. For the folded card base, I scored and folded a piece of white cardstock that was large enough to cut a full heart when folded in half. I positioned the die slightly over the fold line so the mini card would remain connected after cutting.
On the pink heart, I added a simple sentiment using the “I Love You” stamp from the Colorado Craft Company Lovely Legs Valentine stamp set. To determine placement, I slipped the pink heart into the envelope and positioned the stamp so the sentiment would still be visible. I stamped the sentiment with embossing ink, added Brutus Monroe Sterling Embossing Powder, and heat set it.
The embossed pink heart was then adhered to the white foldable heart card.
To finish the tag, I added a hole to the top of the envelope, threaded a ribbon through it, and slid the mini heart card inside.
Tag Two: Simple Scalloped LOVE Tag

For my second project, I created a simple tag featuring the word LOVE.
For the base of the tag, I die-cut two scalloped frames from red cardstock using the Poppy Stamps Double Scalloped Stitched Frames. This die cuts the frame in separate pieces, but I wanted to keep it as one solid piece. To do this, I cut two rectangles that fit just inside the scalloped edges using the Spellbinders Precision B Layering Set.
One rectangle was adhered to a scalloped frame to create the back of the tag. The second rectangle was embossed using the Sizzix Hearts Embossing Folder and then adhered to the second scalloped frame for the front.
Before assembling the tag, I added the string to the inside. I placed the string between the layers, secured it with double-sided tape, and folded it back over itself. The two tag layers were then adhered together with the white panels facing outward on both sides, which helps keep the string securely in place.
Adding the LOVE Sentiment
For the sentiment, I die-cut the letters twice using the Scrapbook.com Typewriter Letter Dies—once from red cardstock and once from silver cardstock. I adhered each letter together, slightly offsetting the red behind the silver, and then added the layered letters to the tag.
