A Charming Vintage-Inspired Card for Kat’s Birthday
Today I’m sharing a sweet and nostalgic project created in honor of Kat’s Birthday celebration. This handmade card features the beautiful Vintage Romance Stamp and Die Set from Kat Scrappiness, and the star of the show is the old‑fashioned record player image. It felt like the perfect way to celebrate her special day with a touch of retro charm.

Stamping and Coloring the Focal Image
The record player image was stamped and colored using OLO markers. I wanted the flowers, leaves, and player to have soft vintage tones, so I selected a warm and cohesive palette.
OLO Marker Colors Used
- Flowers and Leaves
RV 0.6, RV 0.4, RV 0.2, YG 1.4, YG 1.5, G 1.7, G 1.8 - Record Player
YO 2.7, YO 2.5, YO 2.2, OR 3.4, OR 3.7, CG 7, CG 9, CG 5
Once the coloring was complete, I cut out the image. I prefer die‑cutting after coloring because it gives me a better grip while working, but either order works depending on your preference.
Creating the Soft Vellum Layer
To ground the focal point, I die‑cut a piece of vellum using the Embossed Wavy Edge Frame Dies. This added a subtle texture and a soft layer that helps the record player stand out without overwhelming the design.
Building the Background With Tone‑on‑Tone Stamping
The card base consists of a white layer topped with two green layers. The top green layer felt a bit plain, so I enhanced it using a tone‑on‑tone stamping technique.
Using Fresh Asparagus Ink from Gina K Designs, I stamped one of the floral images from the Vintage Romance set randomly across the background. This created a custom patterned paper that tied the entire design together beautifully.
Final Assembly and Dimension
To finish the card:
- All green layers were adhered to the card base to create a framed look.
- Foam tape was used to pop up the record player on top of the vellum.
- Additional foam tape was hidden behind the stamped image on the vellum to give the vellum a floating effect.
- The focal point was centered, completing this quick and charming vintage‑inspired card.
I hope you enjoyed today’s project and feel inspired to create your own nostalgic designs.
