Santa’s Stuck! A Fun Holiday Card Featuring Beat Paper Designs

Today’s project is one I created for the A Perfect Time to Craft monthly challenge. For October, Beat Paper was our amazing sponsor and provided me with the digital image for this card.

As many of you know, I love making cards unique—no two exactly the same—so I’m always scouting new images to keep my designs fresh and fun. The North Pole digital set from Beat Paper did not disappoint! It includes four different images, but for this particular project, I couldn’t resist the Santa who’s upside down in the chimney. It’s such a playful take on the holiday season!

Coloring the Digital Image

I printed the image on lightweight cardstock and colored it using alcohol inks. Here’s a quick breakdown of the shades I used:

  • Santa suit and Chimney: Three shades of red for depth and highlighting
  • Boots & belt: A mix of black and gray tones
  • Buckle: Orange-yellow for a warm metallic look
  • Snow highlights: Soft blue-gray for an icy finish

Once colored, I cut both the Santa image and a black mat using Spellbinders A2 Precision Dies Sets A & B. The mat gives a clean ⅛” border that really helps the image stand out.

Sentiment & Background

For the sentiment, I used my Ho! Ho! Ho! Shadow Sentiment and Craft Dies from Kat Scrappiness. The sentiment is cut from pearlized black cardstock with a crisp white shadow layer underneath.

To add a fun wintery background, I splattered a dark blue cardstock panel with silver metallic paint — though white would look just as festive! To finish, I popped up both the matted Santa and sentiment using 1mm foam tape for just the right amount of dimension.

Final Thoughts

This image from Beat Paper is perfect for both beginners and advanced colorists. The wide open areas offer plenty of space for blending while still leaving room to add your own special touches.
