Creative Masculine Card Making Tips

Creative Masculine Card Making Tips

Today I had a fun creative session using supplies I already had in my stash. I needed a masculine birthday card for a friend who loves fishing—and after a bit of brainstorming (and stash-diving), inspiration struck!

While looking through my dies, I realized the ornament die from the Kat Scrappiness Grinch Hand Die Set looked just like a fishing bobber if I trimmed off the string. That was the spark I needed!

Creating the Bobbers

I die cut six “bobbers” using the ornament from the Grinch Hand Die—three in red and three in white. To give them that classic fishing bobber look, I trimmed off the tops and layered the bottom half of each red die cut onto the full white ones. Super simple but very effective!

Building the Water Background

To create a watery background, I reached for the Kat Scrappiness Camouflage Stencil—yes, camouflage! It’s surprisingly versatile. I ink blended through it using:

These blues layered beautifully for a rippling water effect.

Crafting the Dock

For the dock, I started with light grey cardstock and added texture using the Altenew Deck Panels Embossing Folder. Then, to make the embossed planks pop, I lightly swiped over the panel with Gina K Stormy Sky Ink. It brought out all the beautiful woodgrain detail.

The Finishing Touch

To wrap it all up, I stamped a birthday sentiment in the “water” using the Happy Days Stamp Set from Kat Scrappiness.  I also grabbed a bit of twine and pulled the layers apart to use as an accent.

This card was such a joy to make, and I love how it came together—masculine, fun, and just the right amount of crafty cleverness. I’ll definitely be looking at my dies with fresh eyes from now on!
